New Years Resolution: Act On Climate in 2020

The New Year is an opportunity to reflect on where we have been and where want to go. Let's build on the momentum of the Green New Deal and the youth climate strikes to pass meaningful climate legislation!  We have until July 31st to pass new state laws and we have no time to spare!

- What we are doing -

1) We are holding a lobby day on January 14th** to make sure our legislators know their constituents want Massachusetts to be a climate leader.

2) This is a New Year's Resolution Petition for you to sign that will go to state decisionmakers in early 2020 to show the depth of support for climate action in the state.  Our goal is two thousand twenty signatures to ring in the new decade!   By filling out this form you are signing the petition that will be submitted at a later date.

Mass Power Forward asks, as one of our resolutions for 2020, to consider the following:

  1. I resolve to be active for environmental justice. When our state allows any community to be over-polluted, then we allow for that possibility in any community. Right now, communities of color and poor communities bear the brunt of pollution in Massachusetts.
  2. I resolve to be active for 100% clean, renewable energy for all. We know what we need, and we need it now.
  3. I resolve to be active for equitable investment of any funds created by new policies. As our world considers taxing carbon, I reflect that we cannot punish low-income people with a flat regressive tax.

**PLEASE NOTE: We changed the date and some of our automatic sharing tools still have the "15th" as the date, this is incorrect and you should be able to edit any automatically shared content before sending it.

The climate science tells us we're not moving quickly enough to reduce our carbon emissions. Unless we see significant reductions by 2030, we are not going to be able to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

Times not up yet though! There's still a chance to #ActOnClimate. Please support the following bills and help us get them reported out of committee:

H.2836/S.1958 - 100% Renewable Energy Act (Reps. Decker & Garballey / Sen. Eldridge)

H.761/S.464 - An Act Relative to Environmental Justice and Toxics Reduction in the Commonwealth (Reps. Dubois & Miranda / Sen. Eldridge)

H.826/S.453 - An Act Relative to Environmental Justice (Rep. Madaro / Sen. DiDomenico)

H.2810 - An Act to Promote Green Infrastructure and Reduce Carbon Emissions (Rep. Benson)

Studies* show than an equitable transition to 100% renewable energy has the potential to create 90k+ new jobs and result in over $8 billion saved in health care costs by 2050. Let's build a future we can be proud of!
