The DC City Council should vote NO on Peter Newsham's nomination for police chief. At a time when people of color feel increasingly unsafe, dissenters are targeted for exercising their First Amendment rights, and victims of domestic and sexual violence are forced to relive feelings of powerlessness and pain, Newsham's disqualifying history of abuse renders him unfit to serve as Chief of the MPD. DC cannot risk a police chief with such a history.
