Tell Legislators: Adopt Stronger Charter Standards

Every public school student deserves a high-quality public education in schools that are accountable and transparent to the communities and taxpayers they serve. As taxpayer-funded schools, charter schools are no exception.

There are approximately 2.5 million students enrolled in over 6,500 charter schools nationwide, but oversight and accountability of the charter school industry has been notoriously lax. A new report from the Center for Popular Democracy has documented over $200 million in proven and suspected financial fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in charter schools.

There are solutions to this problem.

The Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University has released a set of proposals for publicly funded charter schools aimed at ensuring accountability and transparency. These proposals can help eliminate the waste and abuse of public tax dollars in the charter school industry and ensure that public funds reach the students they were meant to help.

Sign now to ask your state and local legislator to adopt the Annenberg Standards. Help us ensure students get the education they deserve and taxpayers get the most out of the public dollars invested in charter schools.
