Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Sierra Club New Jersey Chapter. The short explanation of this alert was: This week PSE&G selected a route for its new - and unnecessary - power line through New Jersey's Highlands region. The new line will carry cheap, dirty coal power from Pennsylvania into New Jersey, undermine our efforts to deal with global warming, increase air pollution and green house gases, rip-off New Jersey consumers, and cut through some of our most prized public lands. PSE&G has gone forward with this new line so that it can sell the clean power it produces in-state to New York City at a rate up to 50% higher than it could charge in New Jersey. PSE&G will then bring in cheap dirty coal power from Pennsylvania through the new line. Air pollution will follow the transmission lines as mercury and other pollutants from Pennsylvania's coal plants blow into New Jersey. The transmission lines cut through some of our most prized public lands and environmentally sensitive places in New Jersey, like the Highlands Preservations Area, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Kittatinny Ridge and the Appalachian Trail. The Board of Public Utilities and Governor Corzine need to hear that we will not support PSE&G's scheme to sell clean energy out of state, pollute our air, rip-off consumers, and scar our land.
